OINP- Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program
- By Access 2 Canada
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) is an immigration program designed to help skilled workers, international students, and business immigrants come to Ontario, Canada, and settle successfully. The program is run by the Ontario government in partnership with the federal government of Canada.
The OINP offers several streams through which individuals can apply for nomination. These streams are designed to target specific groups of immigrants and meet the province’s economic and labor market needs. Some of the key streams are mentioned below.
- Foreign Worker Stream: This is a part of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) and is designed to help employers in Ontario fill positions with foreign workers when they cannot find suitable candidates in Canada. This stream allows employers to nominate foreign workers for permanent resident status in Ontario.
- International Student Stream: is part of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). It is designed to help international students who have graduated from eligible Ontario universities or colleges to become permanent residents of Ontario.
- The In-Demand Skills Stream: is part of the Employer Job Offer category of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). It is designed to help employers in Ontario fill positions that require specific in-demand skills that are not easily found in the local labor market. This stream allows employers to nominate foreign workers with job offers in specific occupations.
Eligibility for foreign worker stream:
- Job Offer Requirement: Applicants must have a job offer from an Ontario employer for a full-time permanent position in an eligible occupation.
- Occupational Requirements: Applicants must have experience in one of the eligible occupations identified by the OINP. These occupations are typically in high-demand fields.
- Work Experience: Applicants must have at least two years of full-time (or the equivalent in part-time) work experience in the eligible occupation in the past five years.
- Language Proficiency: Applicants must meet the language requirements for their occupation, which typically include a minimum score on a language proficiency test like IELTS or CELPIP.
- Education: While not a strict requirement, having a Canadian secondary or post-secondary educational credential or its equivalent can strengthen an applicant’s eligibility.
- Intent to Reside: Applicants must intend to live and work in Ontario.
Eligibility criteria for the International Student Stream typically include:
- Education: Applicants must have completed a full-time degree or diploma program of at least two years at an eligible publicly funded Canadian college or university in Ontario. The program must have been completed within two years before the application date.
- Job Offer: Applicants must have a job offer from an Ontario employer that is related to their field of study and is classified as Skill Type 0 (managerial occupations) or Skill Level A or B (professional or technical occupations) under the National Occupational Classification (NOC).
- Intent to Live in Ontario: Applicants must intend to live and work in Ontario.
- Legal Status: Applicants must have legal status (i.e., a valid study permit, work permit, or visitor record) at the time of application.
- Language Proficiency: Applicants must demonstrate language proficiency in English or French at a level that meets the requirements of the job offer.
- Settlement Funds: Applicants must have enough money to support themselves and any dependents while they settle in Ontario.
- Other Requirements: There may be additional requirements depending on the specific stream or category under which the applicant is applying.
The eligibility criteria for the In-Demand Skills Stream of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) include the following:
- Job Offer: You must have a job offer from an employer in Ontario for a full-time, permanent position in one of the eligible occupations.
